Dr Giovanni Battista Migliori, member of the ELF Council and Secretary General of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) participated in a World Health Organization meeting which looked at strategies to fight tuberculosis (TB) in the Americas.
The meeting took place earlier this week, on 4 and 5 July, in Santiago, Chile and focused on tackling TB in countries where rates of the condition are considered to be relatively low, but where the condition still poses a problem.
Dr Migliori joined other TB experts from around the world to discuss strategies and progress in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the condition in North and South American countries.
The overall target is for each country to ‘eliminate’ TB, which would mean that less than one person in every million will get the condition.
