Experts from the European Respiratory Society and the American Thoracic Society have published an article that summarises the current state of research into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The paper, published today (Wednesday 1 April, 2015) in the European Respiratory Journal, gives an overall picture of research into the treatment and management of COPD and recommends areas for future research.
The experts’ recommendations for future research include more studies into the relationship between COPD and other conditions, research into the effects of quitting smoking and how to help people with COPD to quit, and comparisons between different types of pulmonary rehabilitation programmes. There was also an emphasis on patient-centred research.
