Researchers in the US have found that exercise and physical activity among people with lung cancer and survivors of the disease could help to improve their quality of life.
The study, published in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, involved a review of the evidence around physical activity and exercise in people with lung cancer.
The authors found a link between exercise and an increased chance of survival, and point to several studies that show how increasing physical activity can reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. In addition, they noted that being active could help to reduce the chances of complications for those having surgery.
They also discovered that most people with lung cancer want advice on physical activity and exercise from their doctor before their treatment, and that this type of guidance could help them to stick with an exercise programme.
The researchers conclude that exercise is safe and beneficial for people with lung cancer, and recommend that doctors encourage and support their patients to be physically active.
