Lung health professionals around the world are calling for an official World Lung Day.
World Lung Day will be introduced this year on 25 September, as an initiative launched by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS), which includes the European Respiratory Society among its members.
As part of this, FIRS has launched a Charter for Lung Health, which members of the public, patients and lung health professionals can sign. They are aiming to get 100,000 signatures of support. The Charter highlights the huge impact of lung conditions worldwide, as well as the fact that many of these are preventable – for example, with measures to improve air quality and reduce smoking rates.
Given the shared aims of both campaigns, we feel that an official World Lung Day could be a great opportunity to hold a Healthy Lungs for Life event to raise awareness of lung health among the public.
To show your support for World Lung Day, you can sign the Charter online.
