Let’s celebrate together: the JARED project has just reached Milestone MS23, a significant step in its mission to combat chronic respiratory diseases across Europe!
We are strengthening respiratory health — one step at a time.
JARED’s Coordination Team is pleased to announce the successful completion of Milestone MS23, a survey report presenting the results of an online consultation with primary health care (PHC) professionals involved in childhood immunisation. This milestone represents an important achievement within Work Package 7 of the Joint Action and provides essential evidence to inform future action.
The survey was designed to capture the perspectives of PHC professionals regarding the organisation, governance, and implementation of childhood immunisation services, with particular attention to structural and operational barriers that may affect vaccine delivery and uptake.
The findings reveal considerable variation in how childhood immunisation pathways are structured across Europe. In many contexts, the division of tasks between primary and secondary care differs significantly, and formalised regulatory frameworks governing task allocation remain limited or unclear. Respondents also reported persistent challenges, including workforce shortages, long waiting times for specialist input where required, unequal access to essential diagnostic tools, and inconsistent availability or use of digital health solutions to support coordination and follow-up.
At the same time, the survey highlights strong recognition among professionals of the central role of primary care in strengthening immunisation pathways. Enhanced coordination mechanisms, clearer governance structures, and reinforced system-level support for frontline professionals were identified as key priorities to improve service resilience and effectiveness.
The completion of Milestone MS23 provides a robust and practice-informed evidence base to guide the development of targeted recommendations within the Joint Action. These recommendations will aim to strengthen integrated care pathways, improve coordination between levels of care, and support equitable access to high-quality childhood immunisation services across Europe.
