Project coordination

LungHealth4Life was launched on 1 September 2024 and will run for 3 years.

Led by Lungs Europe (a partnership of European Respiratory Society and European Lung Foundation), the project consists of 6 partners. The overarching goal is to explore whether lung health checks in schools are an effective way to protect lung health in a population. LungHealth4Life will run pilot projects in schools in Poland, Portugal and Hungary. 

To achieve this goal, the project is divided into different areas of work, called Work Packages. You can read more information about the different areas of working by clicking the drop down options below.

  • Project management and coordination (Work Package 1)

    The objectives of Work Package 1 are to: 

    • Lead the project, decision making and governance. 
    • Support the Steering Committee, Management Board, Expert Advisory Board, partners and stakeholders. 
    • Manage project-related meetings. 
    • Provide legal and administrative advice. 
    • Assess risk management and quality assurance, and ensure the work plan is completed 
    • Ensure each milestone is met on time.  
    • Report findings to the European Commission. 
  • Stakeholder engagement and Community of Practices (Work Package 2)

    The objectives of Work Package 2 are to:   

    • Bring together lung health organisations, representing people from different backgrounds.  
    • Establish a community to share knowledge and best practice between lung health groups, healthcare professionals (HCPs) and other stakeholders, known as the Community of Practice. This group will also provide feedback on materials developed for WP3. 
    • Include stakeholders in discussions around ethics. 
  • Knowledge Hub (Work Package 3)

    The objectives of Work Package 3 are to:  

    • Collect scientific evidence to support the project’s activities. 
    • Develop and adapt materials needed for the pilot studies (educational materials, communication, and prevention materials). 
    • Set up a ‘Knowledge Hub’ to store the materials and collect evidence about the pilot projects.  
    • Provide evidence from schools previously involved in Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools activities.
  • Identifying and addressing inequalities at national level (Work Package 4)

    The objectives of Work Package 4 are to: 

    • Identify health inequalities and begin the programme in areas where action is needed.  
    • Look at how successful LungHealth4Life is in addressing inequalities. 
  • Communication, dissemination, policy and sustainability (Work Package 5)

    The objectives of Work Package 5 are to: 

    • Prepare strategies to share the outcomes from the Community of Practices, established as part of the work in Work Package 2.   
    • Increase awareness of LungHealth4Life across Europe. 
    • Ensure that the key findings from the project can be used by policymakers to improve healthcare. 
    • Use the findings and strategies from the project to plan how lung function testing can be delivered more widely.
