Two new SHARP papers accepted for publication

Two new papers from the SHARP Clinical Research Collaboration, has been recently accepted for publication in JACI in Practice and in ERJ Open Research.

  • Newly diagnosed eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis in patients on biologics for severe asthma- a multi-centre case series” By Dr. Hitasha Rupani as been accepted in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice

Summary: The study investigates the emergence of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) in patients with severe asthma who are on biologic therapies. The research, conducted across multiple centers, found that EGPA development is rare and typically occurs after tapering off systemic steroids. Key findings include a high pre-biologic eosinophil count in patients and no clear relationship between the timing of steroid tapering and EGPA onset.

Clinicians should remain vigilant for signs of EGPA when tapering systemic steroids in patients on biologic therapies for severe asthma

  • Economic impact of steroid-induced comorbidities in severe asthma: a SHARP CRC simulation” by Dr. Arnaud Bourdin and Barbara Mascialino has been accepted in The European Research Journal Open Research

Summary: This study, conducted by the SHARP Clinical Research Collaboration, addresses a critical and underexplored aspect of severe asthma management—the economic burden of oral corticosteroid (OCS)-induced adverse events (AEs) and the potential cost savings from OCS-sparing strategies
