About this event

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Europe. Early detection through targeted screening can significantly improve survival rates and save lives.

In 2022, the European Commission made history by including lung cancer screening in its Council Recommendation on cancer screening for the first time. This landmark decision has opened the door to EU-funded pilot projects across Member States, testing how screening can work effectively and fairly in real-world settings.

This high-level meeting will explore how EU-funded initiatives like the SOLACE project are turning research into practice, reaching underserved communities, and building the capacity needed to deliver lung cancer screening across Europe.

Join us to hear from leading experts, policymakers and patients as we chart the future of lung cancer screening under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

Who should attend

This event brings together:

  • Healthcare professionals, including pulmonologists, radiologists, oncologists, thoracic surgeons, GPs and nurses
  • Public health professionals and educators
  • Patient organisations and advocates
  • Policymakers and advisers
  • Researchers working on cancer screening and prevention

What we’ll cover

  • Screening with equity in mind: Learn how the SOLACE project is supporting national screening programmes and ensuring that early detection reaches everyone, including underserved communities. Hear directly from patients about what screening pathways should look like from their perspective.
  • Country insights and best practice: Discover how countries across Europe are rolling out or scaling up lung cancer screening programmes. Understand what’s working, what challenges remain, and how radiology is playing a vital role in effective screening.
  • Prevention and tobacco control: Explore the crucial links between screening programmes and prevention efforts, including smoking cessation support and tobacco control policies.
  • The future of lung cancer screening in Europe: Discuss policy recommendations from SOLACE, the path toward sustainable EU-wide implementation, and upcoming EU guidelines.

The event agenda will be shared soon.
