SOLACE launches the European Lung Cancer Screening Alliance (ELCSA)
As SOLACE enters its final stage in 2026, partners have announced the creation of the European Lung Cancer Screening Alliance (ELCSA) by the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS); a new initiative to ensure the achievements of SOLACE continue to impact the future of lung cancer screening in Europe.
The Alliance will support the long-term sustainability of SOLACE and build on the project’s achievements, including the clinical practice guidelines, the joint training programme for physicians involved in lung cancer screening , and the continuation of the Knowledge Hub beyond the project’s duration.
Areas of collaboration are to
- Promote prevention, screening and early diagnosis of lung cancer
- Harmonise standards, training and quality assurance across Europe
- Develop and maintain guidance, tools and resources for lung cancer screening
- Strengthen a pan-European network of expertise
- Support joint advocacy at EU and national levels
- Engage stakeholders through an open European forum
The Alliance is composed of nominated representatives from societies involved in lung cancer screening, alongside national delegates and patient advocacy groups from the European Lung Foundation and Lung Cancer Europe. This range of representatives will ensure that clinical expertise and patient perspectives remain at the heart of ELCSA as it continues its important work in the field.
The Alliance has been in force since January 2026, and the official launch will take place during the European Cancer Screening and Early Detection Policy Summit on 17 February. More information will come soon.
