The Healthy Lungs for Life Breathe Clean Air campaign launched in Athens, Greece in September 2026 during EU Screening Week.

This year, Healthy Lungs for Life is coming to Athens to highlight the importance of protecting lung health from an early age. Working alongside local partners, activities will include free public lung function testing and outreach in local schools.

You will be offered a free lung function test and opportunity to learn how to reduce risks from air pollution, smoking and other factors that impact lung health.

Healthy Lungs for Life will also be working with local schools across Athens to help children and young people learn about protecting their lungs from an early age.

Activities will include interactive sessions on air quality, physical activity and healthy lifestyles, helping students understand how everyday choices can support lifelong lung health.

About the campaign

Healthy Lungs for Life is a global public awareness campaign led by the European Lung Foundation (ELF) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). Running for over a decade, the campaign highlights the importance of lung health for everyone, with or without a lung condition.

We focus on six key themes to reduce the burden of lung disease worldwide. What began as public spirometry events has grown into a global programme involving:

  • city-level activities
  • advocacy and policy work
  • school outreach
  • digital awareness.
