Many people spend a large part of their lives at work. Air quality, ventilation, exposure to dusts or fumes, physical activity and smoke-free environments can all influence lung health over time. Through prevention, awareness and small practical changes, workplaces can help support healthier lungs for employees and wider communities.

The programme encourages organisations to make lung health part of wider workplace wellbeing and corporate social responsibility initiatives, while helping employees better understand how their working environment may affect breathing and long-term health.

Supporting healthier workplaces

Healthy Lungs for Life for workplaces supports organisations that want to promote healthier working environments and increase awareness of lung health among employees.

The programme is flexible and adaptable across a wide range of settings and industries. Activities can be tailored to suit your work environment, size, and interests. They are designed to be informative, engaging and help build workplace relationships.

Examples of activities include:

Our daily life behaviours influence our lung health, not just now but also in later life. Providing evidence-based information will raise awareness on the importance of lung health and enable people to make informed decisions about factors affecting it.

Free lung function testing in your workplace

Healthy Lungs for Life started as a public lung function testing event. You now have the opportunity to have lung function testing (spirometry) in the office.

A spirometry test measures your lung function are and can be used to help diagnose and monitor lung conditions. The test measures how much air you can blow out in total and how much air you can blow out in the first second of the test.

Lung function is a global health marker, providing a window of opportunity to intervene with health promotion and disease prevention activities throughout life.

You can Take the Active Option in your workplace by organising an office run or walk. We can provide the branding, event planning template and a platform where you and your colleagues can fundraise for the campaign!

Tobacco and e-cigarettes use both pose significant health risks, not just to the people who smoke or vape themselves, but also to those who breathe their second-hand smoke.

We can provide a complete package that educates your employees on the importance of quitting smoking and vaping, while also equipping HR departments with the knowledge to create and implement a clear organisational smoke-free policy.
