Take the Active Option at work is a workplace engagement programme that helps organisations bring teams together through a shared physical activity and fundraising challenge in support of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign.
The workplace programme is designed for organisations that want to encourage movement, support employee wellbeing and contribute to a global lung health initiative in a structured but flexible way.
Through the programme, ELF provides guidance, resources and support to help workplaces plan and deliver their own challenge in a way that fits their teams and working environment.
Workplaces taking part receive a range of materials and support to help them plan, deliver and promote their challenge. This includes a campaign pack with key messaging and visuals, guidance on how to structure participation and ready-to-use resources to support internal communication and engagement.
Participants also have access to simple tools to help track activity and fundraising, making it easier to monitor progress and share impact throughout the challenge. Support from the ELF team is available during setup to help organisations get started and adapt the programme to their needs.
Getting started is straightforward and the programme is designed to be flexible enough to suit different organisations and ways of working.
Organisations begin by contacting the ELF team to register interest and receive their campaign materials. From there, they can shape their workplace challenge in a way that works best for their teams.
Typical approaches include:
Employees can take part individually or as part of teams. Throughout the challenge, organisations are encouraged to share progress, maintain engagement and celebrate achievements.
Take the Active Option at work offers a simple way to support employee wellbeing while contributing to a wider global health campaign. It encourages more movement during the working day and helps create shared goals that bring teams together in a positive and inclusive way.
At the same time, participation supports the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign, helping to fund awareness activities, educational resources and community engagement initiatives that promote better understanding of lung health and prevention.
To take part, organisations can contact the ELF team to discuss how the programme can be introduced within their workplace. Once registered, they will receive a campaign pack and practical guidance to support planning and delivery.
The programme can then be adapted to suit organisational size, structure and capacity, from small team challenges to wider workplace initiatives.
Take the Active Option at work has been delivered in a variety of workplace settings, from small teams to large international organisations. Some organisations use it as a short-term engagement activity, while others integrate it into ongoing wellbeing or internal campaign programmes.
These examples demonstrate how flexible the challenge can be, and how it can be adapted to different workplace cultures while maintaining a shared focus on movement and lung health awareness.
