The European Lung Foundation (ELF) and European Respiratory Society (ERS), in partnership with FIRS, are now accepting applications for the 2025 Healthy Lungs for Life (HLfL) grants.
Ten micro-grants of €1,000 are available to support organisations around the world in raising awareness of lung health. Applications close on 9 May 2025.
These grants will support projects focused on:
In 2025, priority will be given to:
Clean air and healthy lungs for all in Bangladesh:
With support from a HLfL grant, Lung Care Foundation and Inspira Advisory and Consulting ran a public awareness campaign in Dhaka to highlight the impact of air pollution on lung health. Through school outreach, stakeholder meetings and media engagement, they educated over 1,000 young people and secured interest from policymakers to prioritise clean air in urban health plans.
Promoting lung health in Moldova with the Charity Wheel:
The Moldovan charity Speranta XXl used their HLfL grant to run the “Charity Wheel” – a cycling-based campaign encouraging people to take the active option. The initiative travelled to schools and community events, sharing practical advice on how physical activity and clean air can help improve lung health, especially for children and families.
Ride for Their Lives in Catalonia:
The HLfL grant helped fund the Catalan edition of Ride for Their Lives, where healthcare professionals cycled from hospital to hospital promoting the link between air quality and respiratory health. The campaign engaged schoolchildren, clinicians and local authorities, delivering a clear message: cleaner air is essential for healthier lungs – especially for young people.
