Ongoing EU projects

ELF and ERS collaborate on a number of EU-funded projects that look at unmet medical and societal needs in the respiratory field. The projects address different aspects in the translational process and how observations in the clinic, laboratory or community turns into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public.

Both ELF (headquarted in Sheffield, UK) and ERS (headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland) can be partners in HORIZON EUROPE projects. Both organistions are also able to contribute to EU4HEALTH projects through Lungs Europe.

Current projects we are involved in:

Healthy Lungs for Life campaign

Healthy Lungs for Life is a global public awareness campaign. It raises awareness of the importance of lung health through a range of events, projects and promotional activities.

The campaign is aimed at everyone whether you have a lung condition or not. It focusses on five key themes to raise awareness of the best ways we can keep our lungs healthy and reduce the amount lung disease experienced by people worldwide:

EU-funded operation grant

ELF and ERS, through Lungs Europe, received an EU operating grant in 2024 to support our mission of promoting good lung health throughout member states.

The grant covers our workplan for the year and will support activities including capacity building and training, expert collaboration and networking, and communication and dissemination on a variety of healthcare topics.

We aim to cascade the key messages of the EU through their networks of healthcare professionals and patients, patient associations and the public. They could also provide opportunities for the EU to receive patient, public and professional viewpoints, needs and experiences. Since COVID-19, which hugely impacted the lives of people living with lung conditions and respiratory health professionals, the need for Lungs Europe has rapidly increased, as Europe looks for new ways to ensure cross-border collaboration, wider data collection, increased communication and improved healthcare systems.

The operating grant will promote good lung health in Europe and beyond and provide input from patients and healthcare professionals to inform and support EU policy covering a range of health topics. All activities aim to improve public and professional knowledge on topics including, but not limited to, cancer, smoking cessation, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), nutrition, and the digitalisation of healthcare systems.

This will in turn help member states with health policy implementation and ensure new MEPs in 2024 are quickly brought up to date on lung health priorities.
