EU Projects and Policy – Intern

Lungs Europe is looking for a motivated, organised and pro-active Intern to work with us on a portfolio of European funded projects (EU4HEALTH and Horizon Europe). You will support a range of EU project activities to engage patients, professionals, the public and policymakers in lung health.
Supported by the European Lung Foundation (ELF) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) teams, you will play an integral role in rolling out various project activities in the field of lung health. You will also contribute to EU policy and relevant advocacy campaigns and activities, as well as engagement opportunities to important stakeholders.
The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the core team in Lungs Europe, as well as a wider network (>80 employees) of ERS and ELF employees spanning three offices (Brussels, Lausanne, Sheffield).
About us
Established in November 2019, Lungs Europe allows two important European organisations – European Lung Foundation (ELF) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) – to work in partnership and with all stakeholders in the respiratory field to drive policy and the regulatory environment in support of lung health at the European level. Lungs Europe is well placed to play a significant role in EU-funding programmes and projects related to respiratory health and disease.
ELF is a patient-led organisation that works internationally to bring patients and the public together with healthcare professionals to improve lung health and advance diagnosis, treatment, and care.
ERS is the largest scientific and clinical organisation in respiratory medicine in Europe. Its members are scientists, clinicians, allied healthcare professionals and other experts from around the world.
Responsibilities and learning opportunities
- Gain experience working on a portfolio of EU projects in the field of lung health spanning from lung cancer screening, lung function testing, health promotion and disease prevention in schools; air pollution and tobacco awareness in young people; COPD palliative care, and others
- Contribute to the EU policy and advocacy work by supporting responses to EU consultations, helping prepare joint policy statements, assisting in outreach to policymakers, and gathering stakeholder insights to inform policy positions on EU files relevant to respiratory health. This includes monitoring and engaging with policy initiatives on behalf of clinicians, patients, and researchers in areas such as disease prevention, healthcare delivery, medical research, innovation, environment, tobacco control, and more
- Develop the skills to support project management, write meeting minutes and ensuring the deliverables are produced as required
- Learn how to effectively contribute to communication and dissemination activities; and advocacy activities
- Support organisation of meetings, events and workshops
- Learn how to engage different stakeholders and liaise with relevant partners
- Report internally on project tasks and making any connections with ERS and ELF networks as needed
- Assist with other general responsibilities and administrative support
About you
The successful candidate will have:
- At least a last year student status or a bachelor degree or equivalent in experience in health sector
- A passion for the impact patients and professionals can have on healthcare and policy, particularly on topics such as clean air, tobacco prevention and childhood health
- Excellent written and spoken English; other languages are an advantage
- The agility to grasp and tackle various tasks at a time
- Fast learning ability to cover Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud applications as well as MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with the team, healthcare professionals and patients
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm, energy, tenacity, commitment, a pro-active approach to work
What we offer
- An intern contract (under the Belgian Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle (CIP) scheme) in duration of 6 months
- A gross monthly renumeration of 1,200 euro
