Healthy Lungs for Life Campaign brings free lung tests to the European Parliament

An interactive exhibition and free lung check will take place at the European Parliament on 4–5 February 2025. Hosted by Nicolae Ștefănuță, Vice-President of European Parliament, the exhibition will showcase to policymakers the steps we can take to prevent lung disease, the policies we need to prioritise lung health and the importance of early diagnosis of lung diseases.

The event is part of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign and is being organised by Lungs Europe, a partnership of the European Respiratory Society and European Lung Foundation.

Representatives of Brussels-based NGOs, patient organisations and healthcare professionals working in the field of lung health are invited to attend the opening ceremony and reception on 4 February from 12:30 to 14:30. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with Members of the European Parliament, like-minded colleagues and get a free lung check, known as a spirometry test.

The Healthy Lungs for Life campaign is run by Lungs Europe and is aimed at everyone, whether you have a lung condition or not. It focusses on the best ways we can keep our lungs healthy to reduce the burden of lung disease experienced by people worldwide. Events are held across the globe each year as part of the campaign to put a spotlight on lung health.

During the event in the European Parliament,  Members of the European Parliament will also be invited to join the MEP Lung Health Group; an informal platform for policymakers, health professionals and patients to identify the potential EU policy measures aimed at improving lung health.

In addition to the exhibition, on 5 February, a roundtable event looking at standards of care for COPD will also take place in the Parliament. Organised by the European Federation of Asthma and Allergy Associations (EFA), a member organisation of the European Lung Health Group, the event will reflect on the progress and challenges in COPD care and prevention.  Find out more and register for the COPD Roundtable event, “Raising the standards of care for COPD in Europe”.
