Home » ELF welcomes Europe’s new approach to lung cancer screening
In December 2022 the European Union adopted the updated Council Recommendation on cancer screening. This new approach integrates lung cancer screening along with prostate and gastric cancers. ELF congratulates the European Commission and the EU member states on this important milestone on the way to beating cancer.
The Recommendation proposes screening using low-dose computed tomography (CT) for people who are high-risk. This intervention will ensure early diagnosis and better clinical outcomes for millions of people across the EU.
Supporting the position of the European Respiratory Society, ELF calls on all 27 EU countries to follow the Recommendation and launch national screening programmes.
