Treatment decision aid for people with lung cancer stage III / N2

If you have been diagnosed with lung cancer stage III / N2, then our treatment decision aid tool can help you to explore your treatment options.

The decision aid currently includes information about the treatment options of surgery or radiotherapy, both in combination with chemotherapy, and aims to support your decision-making when both these options are available to you.

The tool is not intended to replace a consultation with healthcare professionals involved in your treatment and we recommend that all options are discussed in detail with your doctors, as each individual is unique with different levels of fitness and medical needs, so this is very important.

What does the tool do?

  • Outlines the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment.
  • Takes you through the options in an interactive way to help you identify your own preferences.
  • Includes a quiz at the end of each section to test your understanding of each treatment option.
  • Prints your own table of preferences to take to your doctor’s appointment to help guide your discussions.

The tool is currently available in English but will be available in German soon.

The tool was developed by the European Respiratory Society with input and testing from the European Lung Foundation’s lung cancer patient advisory group. It has also been endorsed by European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) and European Society for Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS).
