Healthy Lungs for Life Grant Awardees 2023

Healthy Lungs for Life (HLfL) is ELF and ERS’s global public outreach campaign making people aware of the importance of good lung health and the issues around it. Every year the campaign reaches thousands of people, helping to raise awareness on its key topics. But we are unable to do this alone. By offering grants to organisations around the globe and working with our partners we can reach so many more people, ensuring the campaign has as big an impact as possible.

This year, with thanks to FIRS, we were able to make 10 more grants to promote Healthy Lungs for Life through local campaigns and events. As always there were many fantastic projects to choose from and you can see the successful recipients below.

This year we also received support from Clean Air Fund and so can make another 10 grants for projects that fall under the #BreathCleanAir topic. We have now completed shortlisting and will announce the successful applicants in September.

The successful HLfL grantees for 2023 are:

Cameroon Association for the Promotion of Youth Leadership, Advocacy and Volunteerism Cameroon (APYLAV) Training young people to inform their peers on the importance of clean air
Ghana Respiratory Diseases and Allergy Organizations, Ghana Informing people of the importance of clean fuels for indoor cooking
Nigeria College of Medicine, University of Ibadan A community anti-smoking campaign
Mexico Instituto de Desarrollo e Innovación en Fisiologí­a Respiratoria Increasing the popularity of lung function tests and informing people on the main factors around poor lung health
Nigeria Bayero University Kano Promoting physical health in prisons to reduce NCDs
Kenya Allergy and Asthma Organization of Kenya Informing the Maasai Mara population on how to better use pesticides in order to protect lung health
Brazil  Universidade Federal do Ceará Building awareness around COPD and reducing smoking
Nepal Public Health Initiative Celebrating world lung health day with a large program of events to inform the community on lung health
Greece & Cyprus Respiratory Physiology Laboratory of the Medical School of the University of Cyprus Promoting vaccinations for good lung health among the elderly and their carers
Brazil Department of physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary physiotherapy Laboratory, Federal University of São Carlos Promoting vaccination for lung health in Brazil
