Patient organisations: Get involved with the IRC

Share your expertise and help to improve lung health outcomes in your country.

The International Respiratory Coalition (IRC) was formed in 2021 to help countries develop national plans and improve outcomes for lung disease patients. The initiative is led by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and is made up of 19 national-level coalitions from across Europe.

Patients are at the core of the IRC. ELF works with the IRC to make sure that patients are involved at all levels. By getting involved in a national coalition, patients can:

  • Share their perspectives, making sure projects are relevant to the patient community.
  • Help projects get IRC grant funding. For experts to successfully apply for financial support, patients must be represented in their project.
  • Influence policymakers and shape healthcare change. The patient perspective is a powerful tool and often helps to guide decisions made by policy makers.

This year, the IRC is calling for more patient organisations to get involved. If you are a member of the ELF Patient Organisation Network and are passionate about improving lung health outcomes in your country, please contact us for more information and to join your national coalition.
