About the event

On World Bronchiectasis Day (1 July), we want to raise awareness about bronchiectasis around the world. This webinar is aimed at people with bronchiectasis and their family members/caregivers. However, anyone who would like to understand more about this condition is welcome to join.

This session will focus on current and future treatments for bronchiectasis. You can submit your questions about this topic to the panel of bronchiectasis experts using the form below.

The experts will answer as many of these questions as they can during the 1-hour webinar.  Attendees will also be able to write questions in the chat during the webinar and have them answered by our experts.

Prof. Michal Shteinberg - profile image
Prof. Michal Shteinberg

Michal Shteinberg received her MD and a PhD in biochemistry from the Technion-Israel institute of technology. She trained in internal medicine and pulmonology, with a Fellowship in bronchiectasis and adult CF.

Prof. Shteinberg is Head of Bronchiectasis and Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Carmel Medical Center, and the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, the B. Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Haifa, Israel.

She is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of medicine at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, and a member of the executive committee of the Israeli Society for Tuberculosis and mycobacterial diseases.

Her main research interests are bronchiectasis and its overlap with other airway diseases, mainly rhinosinusitis, and connective tissue diseases, as well as adult CF.

Prof. Shteinberg is a member of EMBARC management and heading Patient Activities Work package.

Professor Stefano Aliberti - profile image
Professor Stefano Aliberti

Stefano Aliberti is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Milan, and consultant at the Respiratory Department and Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center at the Policlinico Hospital in Milan, Italy. He is the director of the Bronchiectasis, Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia programs of the Policlinico Hospital.

His major clinical and research interests are in both acute and chronic respiratory infections. He has extensive experience in epidemiological and clinical research in pneumonia.

He has been heavily involved in bronchiectasis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria. He founded the European Bronchiectasis Registry (EMBARC). Prof. Aliberti has published up to 200 peer-reviewed articles mainly on respiratory infections and he was part of international task forces to produce guidelines on bronchiectasis and severe pneumonia, as well as statements on tuberculosis.

Danielle Hurvitz

Danielle is a Physiotherapist at Carmel Hospital Haifa Israel. She is Inpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Coordinator and part of the Respiratory Physiotherapist Clalit Home Treatment Team.

Danielle has a specialist interest in treatment and management of bronchiectasis within the acute and chronic settings.

Professor James Chalmers  - profile image
Professor James Chalmers
United Kingdom

Professor James Chalmers is the British Lung Foundation Chair of Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee, UK, and a consultant respiratory physician.

He is an expert in lung infections and has been involved in a number of projects during the COVID19 pandemic, including leading the ERS Guidelines Task Force for COVID19, being chief investigator for several trials of new COVID19 treatments and answering many of the questions received for the ELF Q&A.

He works closely with ELF to involve patients in respiratory infection research through projects such as EMBARC, and is an advocate for involving patients in guidelines, clinical research, and clinical trials.
