About the ERS Congress

The ERS Congress is an annual conference. It brings together the world’s respiratory experts to present and discuss the latest scientific and clinical advances across the entire field of respiratory medicine. For more information about the ERS Congress programme, visit the ERS Congress website.

Each year, the European Lung Foundation (ELF) organises events at the Congress to help patients and their organisations get involved. The full schedule of ELF events will be shared on our website once confirmed.

Patient representatives and organisations

The European Lung Foundation (ELF) is committed to ensuring that patient organisations and patient representatives have the opportunity to attend the ERS Congress and contribute their valuable expertise to the programme. We are delighted to once again welcome patient representatives from a wide range of countries, organisations and lung conditions.

  • Registration for ERS Congress

To make the Congress more affordable and accessible, ERS and ELF offer a special registration category with reduced fees for patient organisations and their representatives. This is especially helpful for organisations bringing multiple members. If you are a member of an ELF Patient Advisory Committee (PAC) or a Patient Advisory Group (PAG), you will receive extra benefits, please contact a member of the ELF team to learn more.

    Who can register?

The discounted registration rate is available to patients, carers, paid staff and volunteers who work with a respiratory patient organisation. The organisation must be part of the ELF Patient Organisation Network, which is free to join. New patient organisations can easily join the network here.

What do I get with a patient representative registration?

There are two main options for patient representatives:

    • Attend the Patient Organisation Networking Day on Saturday 27 September, with a free day pass.
    • Attend the full ERS Congress at a discounted rate, either in person (€115) or online (€50). This includes the Patient Organisation Networking Day and many other informative sessions

    How to register

All patient representatives, PAG and PAC members wishing to attend the Congress should complete our application form. We will contact you about the next steps in your registration. If you have any questions about your application, please contact us.

  • ELF travel bursary

ELF aims to support a wide range of patient organisations in attending the ERS Congress, helping them benefit from opportunities to network, hear the latest research and showcase their activities. Patient organisations can apply for one of our bursaries to help cover the cost of travel and accommodation to attend the Congress in Amsterdam.

Organisations can apply for one of the following two types of bursary:

    €350 bursary:

    • For those attending the Patient Organisation Networking Day on Saturday 27 September 2025
    • For those living within 150 km of Amsterdam attending any part of the Congress, including the Patient Organisation Networking Day

    €800 bursary:

    • For those attending the full ERS Congress from Saturday 27 September to Wednesday 1 October 2025

Am I eligible for a travel bursary?

To apply for a travel bursary, organisations must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • The organisation must be a national organisation based in Europe. Europe is defined according to the WHO’s European Region.
    • Global organisations, European umbrella groups/federations, and national organisations based outside Europe are not eligible.
    • Only one bursary is available per organisation. You cannot apply for both the €350 and €800 bursaries.
    • No part of your attendance at the Congress should be funded by a pharmaceutical company or any other external source (e.g. grant, institute, university).
    • Anyone receiving an ELF travel bursary must attend the ELF Patient Organisation Networking Day on Saturday 27 September.

We recognise the financial challenges faced by voluntary sector organisations and aim to prioritise bursaries for those most in need. During the application process, you will be asked to provide information about your organisation’s annual income, the number of paid staff, and whether it is your organisation’s first time attending the ERS Congress.

Application deadline: Wednesday 30 May 2025. We cannot accept applications after this date.

Notification of outcome: All applicants will be informed whether they have been awarded a bursary by Friday 13 June 2025.

Bursary distribution: Successful applicants will receive their bursary via pre-paid Mastercard during the ERS Congress or via bank transfer after the event.
