Thomas first got involved in ELF and European Respiratory Society (ERS) activities when he joined the ERS Task Force developing the first European Guideline on Adult Bronchiectasis. He was one of 3 patient representatives who inputted their views to ensure that patient experiences were heard and recognised in this groundbreaking document.

When ELF set up a Bronchiectasis Patient Advisory Group (PAG) to develop patient information, Thomas was one of the first to join and became a regular attendee and contributor.

Thomas was very keen to promote research into the neglected diseases of bronchiectasis and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) lung disease. He attended the first World Bronchiectasis Conference in Hannover and also participated in several ERS Congresses, as a speaker and participant.

We are truly grateful for all of the input and commitment that Thomas gave to ELF and ERS over the last decade to improve bronchiectasis research and we will remember him.

“I had the privilege of working with him, and I always deeply appreciated him both as a person and for his commitment. His passing is undoubtedly a great loss – not only for the European Lung Foundation and EMBARC, but also for the entire bronchiectasis patient community, in light of all that he has contributed over the years.” ~ Professor Stefano Aliberti
