Healthy Lungs for Life heads to Barcelona in September 2022

This September, the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign will go to Barcelona to raise awareness of the importance of lung health to members of the public.

The Healthy Lungs for Life campaign is run by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Lung Foundation (ELF). The activities in Barcelona 2022 are being organised in collaboration with ISGlobal, a centre supported by the ”la Caixa” Foundation, and the University of Barcelona.

The activities will run during and around the ERS Congress 2022, giving delegates of the Congress the opportunity to learn more about the campaign, as well as raising awareness of the campaign’s key messages to members of the public.

Free lung function tests, 3 September

Ahead of the Congress, delegates and members of the public are invited to take a free lung function (spirometry) test in the Plaça Universitat between 11:00-19:00.

The event will be an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about their lung health, the importance of healthy lungs and what they can do to keep their lungs healthy. It will also be an opportunity for delegates of the Congress to learn more about the campaign, its key messages and how they can get involved.

The campaign focuses on the following key topics:

• Breathe Clean Air
• Be Smoke Free
• Take The Active Option
• Vaccinate

And this September, it will launch a new theme: Fight Climate Change.

Each theme promotes an important way to look after our lungs and prevent any damage. People attending the event will be able to pick up information, learn more about these key themes and chat to professionals about any worries they have with their lung health.

Doctors and nurses at the event will give participants free spirometry tests to measure their lung function, and if the results raise concern, they will be given a letter to take to their doctor.

Collection of books, films and songs at Library Agustí Centelles and online, 4-6 September

During the ERS Congress, delegates and members of the public will be able to browse a special collection of books about lung health at the Library Agustí Centelles. The list of books will also be available to view online, along with a collection of films and songs linked to lung health and the Healthy Lungs for Life themes.

Public talk, 6 September

Members of the public are invited to attend a free public talk at the CC Golferichs (Civic Centre) on 6 September at 19:00. The talk will be in Catalan with experts explaining how you can have healthy lungs for a lifetime.
