Launch of the Innovative Health Initiative: opportunities for patient engagement

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) has started its activities with an official launch event on 26 January 2022. The IHI builds on the successes of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI). The IHI is Europe’s new public-private partnership for health between the European Union and the European life science industries. The IHI’s goal is to support health research. It aims to translate health research and new ideas into real benefits for patients and society.

There are currently two involvement opportunities for patients, carers and patient organisations:

  • Scientific and Innovation Panel (SIP): Health community stakeholders, including patient organisation representatives, are invited to apply for the SIP. This advisory panel will play an important role in setting IHI’s priorities and designing future calls for proposals. To apply to be part of the SIP, you will need to submit an expression of interest by 21 February 2022, 23:59 CET. Follow the instructions on the SIP page of the IHI website.
  • Patient Pool: The Patient Pool is a network of patient representatives. Its aim is to strengthen the role and voice of patients and carers at strategic and operational levels. Members can contribute to IHI’s work in different ways. Coordinators are discussing a safe and appropriate approach to include children and young people to be involved in the Patient Pool as well. For more information, read about the IMI Patient Pool.
