Home » SOLACE showcased at the ECO Summit
On 19–20 November, ELF and ERS attended the European Cancer Summit to highlight progress from the SOLACE project.
The European Cancer Summit, organised by the European Cancer Organisation (ECO), took place in Brussels this month. The event brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, patient advocates and people with experience participating in lung cancer screening from across Europe.
The event highlighted cancer prevention, early detection and equitable access to screening across Europe. ELF and ERS attended to promote the EU-funded SOLACE project as it enters its final year.
The Summit opened with a keynote address by Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare. He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to tackling cancer and emphasised the importance of keeping patients at the centre of all health initiatives. He stressed that early detection saves lives and highlighted cancer screening, including lung cancer, as a priority within the EU agenda.

SOLACE was featured in the session “Not Just Treatment: The Power of Prevention and Cancer Screening”, chaired by Dr Luis Seijo (SOLACE project partner based in Spain and ERS Advocacy Council member). Panellists included MEP Romana Jerković, a member of the MEP Lung Health Group, Maria Elena Scoppio from DG TAXUD, and Sandra Caldeira from the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. The discussion highlighted the important role of strong prevention policies and high-quality screening programmes in reducing Europe’s cancer burden.
Throughout the Summit, SOLACE was on display in the networking area. This provided valuable opportunities for the ELF and ERS teams to connect with stakeholders, raise awareness of the project, and strengthen collaboration within the cancer prevention community.

As SOLACE enters its final stage, we invite you to register for the European Cancer Screening and Early Detection Policy Summit, where results from the three ongoing pilot screening projects, SOLACE, PRAISE-U, and TOGAS, will be presented.
