On 4 April 2025, Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools joined Longfonds at a ‘Night at the Museum’ event hosted by NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam. The event brought together educators and organisations to showcase science-based classroom activities for schools across the Netherlands.
Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools is an education initiative by the European Lung Foundation (ELF) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). It aims to help children understand the importance of looking after their lungs, including how the air they breathe can affect their health. By learning early, children can adopt habits that help protect their lungs for life.
In 2025, Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools is partnering with Longfonds ahead of the 2025 ERS Congress in Amsterdam. Together, we share a common goal to improve lung health for all.
The partnership builds on Longfonds’ successful Snifferbike Junior pilot from 2024, which was trialled with 7th-grade students in Amersfoort. In that project, children used bikes equipped with sensors that measured local air pollution around their school. The programme gave students a hands-on way to understand how air quality impacts their health.
The new Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools x Longfonds partnership aims to expand our educational efforts, raise awareness and inspire positive change on a larger scale.
The Night at the Museum event was an interactive evening designed to inspire teachers and educators to bring science into the classroom. Open to primary schools and special education institutions, it featured a wide range of creative teaching tools.
At the event, educators had a chance to try out Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools and Snifferbike Junior materials firsthand: riding bikes, measuring indoor air quality, and even testing their lung function. The response was enthusiastic, with many schools registering their interest in joining the programme.
