EU Screening Week is a new European Commission initiative taking place from 28 September to 4 October 2026, designed to create a Europe-wide focus on preventative healthcare, health screening and early detection. Coinciding with World Heart Day and the EU’s Safe Hearts Plan, it encourages organisations and communities across Europe to organise and showcase activities that help people take simple actions for their health.
For the respiratory community, EU Screening Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of lung health, promote lung function testing and other prevention activities, and demonstrate why lung health checks should be considered alongside other routine health assessments.
Respiratory and cardiovascular health are closely connected. Through Healthy Lungs for Life activities taking place during EU Screening Week, organisations across Europe are helping people understand their lung health, learn about prevention and early detection, and take positive steps to protect their long-term health.
Healthy Lungs for Life partners across Europe are hosting a range of lung health activities during EU Screening Week, including:
These activities give people the opportunity to understand their lung health, know their numbers, learn about prevention and early detection, and take practical steps to protect their lungs.
The activities listed above are part of Healthy Lungs for Life’s contribution to EU Screening Week and showcase how organisations across Europe are helping people understand their lung health, know their numbers and take steps to protect their lungs.
Healthy Lungs for Life is a collaborative initiative of the European Lung Foundation and the European Respiratory Society.
