Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital organised a lung health event for school children in Sokoto, Nigeria, using the Healthy Lungs For Life Grant.

Supported by the European Lung Foundation (ELF) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the organisation launched a campaign called “Breath, Move & Act.” This is a school-centred programme combining lung health education with climate awareness and encouraging youth-led advocacy for cleaner air and better respiratory health.

Through interactive sessions in schools, the project marked World Lung Day by engaging students in educational activities around air pollution and keeping lungs healthy. The aim was to raise awareness amongst young people of the risks to lung health from air pollution, smoking and environmental damage.

More than 6,000 students were involved in the initiative. They went on to plant 20 trees and launched health and environment-focused school clubs, which they hope to continue. The project highlights how these grants can help grassroots organisations turn global lung health goals into local action.
