The Healthy Lungs for Life campaign is a global public awareness raising campaign, run by European Lung Foundation and European Respiratory Society.

Lung disease causes too many deaths and dramatically impacts the quality of life of all those living with a lung condition. The Healthy Lungs for Life (HLfL) initiative was launched to engage the public and build awareness of the importance of lung health and what people can do to protect their lung health.

The initiative focuses on five key topics:

The workplace programme

Activities for you and your colleagues can be built to suit your work environment and needs. They could involve having healthcare professionals come and offer lung function tests, a webinar on the importance of lung health and how to improve it, an anti-vaping /smoking campaign in the office, and/or organising a local community lung health event sponsored by your company.

All initiatives are aimed at employee health and well-being to contribute to a healthy working environment. They are informative, fun, and help to build workplace relationships.

Led by a local healthcare professional, this informative webinar gives participants the opportunity to engage with an expert on the topic and ask questions that are specific to their interests.

Our daily life behaviours influence our lung health, not just now but also in later life. Providing evidence-based information will raise awareness on the importance of lung health and enable people to make informed decisions about factors affecting it.

Healthy Lungs for Life started as a public lung function testing event. You now have the opportunity to have lung function testing (spirometry) in the office.

A spirometry test measures your lung function are and can be used to help diagnose and monitor lung conditions. The test measures how much air you can blow out in total and how much air you can blow out in the first second of the test.

Lung function is a global health marker, providing a window of opportunity to intervene with health promotion and disease prevention activities throughout life.
