Caluma Foundation promotes lung health and environmental awareness with HLFL event

On 14 November 2024, the Caluma Integral Development and Social Protection Foundation, with the generous sponsorship of the European Lung Foundation, organised the Healthy Lungs for Life event at the Peasant Social Security Dispensary in Pasagua, Caluma, Bolívar Province, Ecuador.

This event brought together numerous members and retirees of the peasant social security system, as well as community members, health professionals, and families, with the aim of promoting lung health and raising awareness about the prevention of respiratory diseases.

Attendees participated in a variety of enriching activities. Experts such as Dr Amos Laborde delivered lectures on the importance of lung care, while Lic. Judith Arguello led an energetic dance therapy session to encourage an active lifestyle. Nutritionist Mishel Baños Sánchez provided valuable guidance on healthy eating, and Eng. Marcelo Vega highlighted the impact of the environment on health, distributing trees for reforestation as a symbol of commitment to a cleaner future.

Despite challenges, the event successfully raised awareness about lung health and inspired attendees to adopt healthier habits. Direct beneficiaries included individuals who received essential health information and those who participated in spirometry tests. The event was not only an opportunity for education but also a moment to unite the community around a shared goal: protecting our lungs and fostering a healthier environment for all.
